I highly recommend this book for all those that are teaching or will be teaching grades k-2. The book is In the Small Small Pond by Denise Fleming; This book's Illustrations and Rhyming Text describes the activities of animals living in and near a small pond as spring progressed to autumn.
The reading/writing connectionss:
1. introduce the students to animals that live in ponds. Read the book aloud.
2. Discuss the book by asking students about animals that live in the pond.
3. Discuss why these animals have to live in a pond and lastly, have the students choosed their favorite animal in the pond and write a short story about the animal.
As a Prek-kindergarten teacher I have used this book during the spring season and the students love it. This book can be used in most of the curriculum areas such as reading/writing, math, science, and art/music.
Enjoy!
